INTERSTATE 81 – VIRGINIA

Botetourt County

  • Exit 156 Bridge Work: Milling and paving on northbound and southbound bridges. Nighttime lane closures and occasional slow rolls; flagging on Route 640 during barrier wall placement. Completion expected fall 2026.

Pulaski County & Montgomery County

  • Acceleration Ramp Extensions: Extending ramps at mile marker 94 (southbound) and 105 (northbound). Exit 94 ramp is open; Exit 105 northbound ramp closed Oct. 16, 8 p.m.–Oct. 30, 7 a.m. Detour via Rock Road to Tyler Avenue to mile marker 109. Nighttime lane closures 9 p.m.–6 a.m., Sunday–Thursday. Shoulder closures and narrowed/shifted ramps. Completion summer 2026.
  • Exit 89 Bridge Rehabilitation: Shoulder closure in place. Ramp closures on Exit 89B from Draper Valley Road to northbound I-81 and off-ramp from northbound I-81. Detour via Exit 94 and Route 11. Lane closures possible.

Roanoke County & City of Salem

  • Exit 137–141 Lane Widening: Widening project from two to three lanes, including bridge replacements, sound walls, and ramp improvements. Nighttime lane closures 8 p.m.–6 a.m., Sunday–Thursday. Ramp closures at Exit 140 possible; flagging on Route 635 and 619. Uneven pavement and traffic shifts possible. Completion expected early 2026.
  • Exit 143–150 Widening: Survey and preparation work; periodic nighttime lane and shoulder closures 9 p.m.–6 a.m. Barrier wall installation later this fall/winter. Ramp narrowing at exits 143, 146, 150. Completion summer 2031.

Pulaski & Montgomery Counties

  • Peak Creek Deck Overlay (Mile 95.7): Nighttime lane closures Sunday–Friday, northbound 6 p.m.–9 a.m., southbound 7 p.m.–10 a.m. Alternating lane closures from mile 94–96. Completion fall 2025.
  • New River Bridge Replacement (Exit 105, Montgomery County): Northbound traffic on new bridge. Nighttime lane closures mile 104–106 8 p.m.–6 a.m.; shoulder closures anytime. Slow rolls mile 98–109. Work zone speed 60 mph.

Botetourt County

  • I-81 Deck Repairs (Mile 89–170): Nighttime right and left lane closures 9 p.m.–6 a.m. Delays possible.

INTERSTATE 581 – ROANOKE CITY

  • Patching Operations: Nighttime lane closures northbound and southbound, Sunday–Thursday, 7 p.m.–7 a.m. Delays possible.

ROANOKE CITY

  • Route 460 (Orange Avenue) Off-Ramp Safety Improvements: Shoulder and lane closures eastbound and westbound. New signal installation in progress. Nighttime closures possible; delays expected.

ROANOKE COUNTY

  • Route 220/Route 419 Diverging Diamond Interchange: Multiple intersections modified to reduce congestion; work continues through fall 2028.
  • Route 220 at Crossbow Circle & Pheasant Ridge Road: New traffic pattern; paving operations around week of Oct. 19.
  • Route 220 at Southern Hills & Valley Avenue: Nighttime lane closures 7 p.m.–6 a.m. New traffic pattern with signal in place.

BOTETOURT COUNTY

  • Route 621 (Roaring Run Road): One lane for culvert replacement; temporary signal controls alternating traffic. Completion expected fall 2025.
  • Route 622 (Dagger Springs Road): Closed for drainage, culvert, and slope work; detour in place. Completion expected Aug./Sept. 2025.
  • Craig-Botetourt Scenic Trail: Brush cutting and stabilization work ongoing. No construction schedule set.

CRAIG COUNTY
