The Craig County girls will be looking to pick up their second Pioneer District win on Thursday when the girls travel to Buena Vista to meet Parry McCluer.

Craig is 1-6 in the district and 3-12 overall after dropping two Pioneer games last week. They traveled to Narrows on Tuesday, October 7, and lost in three sets, 25-7, 25-20 and 25-7.

“The second game at Narrows was really good,” said coach Suzanne Crawford. “We came out really slow and just couldn’t get it together in the first game but in the second game we showed a lot of promise. The girls played hard and put in a lot of effort but still couldn’t pull out the win.”

The Rockets were at Eastern Montgomery last Thursday and lost in three, 25-14, 25-17 and 25-9.

“Natalie Fisher had a great game against Eastmont,” said Crawford. “Felicity Fisher and Jenna Boitnotte also played great.”

Next week the Rockets will have their last two home games, on Tuesday with Bath County and on Thursday, October 23, with Highland. The Highland game will be “Senior Night.”

“This year we may not have the wins, but they have an unbreakable bond,” said Crawford. “They play for each other for every practice, every laugh, every memory. That’s what they’ll remember most. As a coach it’s hard watching a group this talented come up short on the scoreboard, but when I step back and see who they’ve become the leadership, the grit, the way they lift each other up, I realize that’s the real victory.”
