The Craig County track team competed in the Region 1C meet at Giles High School on Thursday of last week and had some outstanding performances.
Two Rockets ran to second place finishes. Freshman Bradyn Dunbar was second in the 100 meters with a time of 11.96 while Bentley Smith, another freshman, was runnerup in the 300 hurdles in 46.72 and fifth in the high jump.
Carter Calfee finished sixth in the 100 and 200 meters while Dunbar was eighth in the 200. Robert Eakin was seventh in the 300 hurdles and 10th in the 110 high hurdles. Craig’s 4×100 relay team was third.
“The team is incredibly young and the future is bright for us,” said coach Jayke Dowdy. “We will compete for individual championships for the next few years.”
Dunbar and Smith will compete in the Class 1 state meet at James Madison University on Friday and Saturday of this week.
