New Castle Garden Club annual Plant Auction will be Thursday, April 24 at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall of New Castle Christian Church. Parking is available off of Rt. 311 in front of the church as well as the parking lot beside IGA Express.
Amateur auctioneer Virginia “BlueBell” McWhorter, member of Maywood Garden Club, will oversee the fundraiser, which over the years has become a social event and primary fundraiser for the club.
A great assortment of plants are expected to be donated by club members, who have divided them, dug them up, or propagated them from their yards in recent weeks. This means the plants are acclimated to the local climate and growing cycles.
Plants will include but not be limited to shrubs, small trees, perennials such as periwinkle and black-eyed Susans, house plants, and herbs. A variety of day lilies, from the original orange bloom to more unusual types and colors will also be available. Daylilies are known for their low maintenance and showy color during the hot weeks of summer and seem to do well in Craig County.
The Plant Auction has been a primary fundraiser for the Garden Club, which is marking 85 years since its organization with the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs.
Door prizes are being planned and finger-food refreshments will be served.
The public is cordially invited to attend. Cash and checks will be accepted.
