The Craig County baseball team will be on the road this week for two games as they open the season with a new coach. Jaime Mick has taken over as Rocket skipper for the 2025 campaign.
Mick developed a love for baseball at an early age. He grew up in southern New Jersey with a glove on his hand.
“I’ve played or coached baseball ever since I was four years old,” he said. “I won the South Jersey Group 4 NJSIAA Championship my Senior year in 2015 and went on to play baseball at the Junior College level at Atlantic Cape from 2016-2017. Since then I have helped coach the South Jersey Ospreys, the South Jersey 9ers, and volunteered back at Atlantic Cape.”
Craig will have a 12 player varsity team. Returnees from last year’s team are seniors Jaycob Wolfe, Isaiah Wente and Cameron Huffman and juniors Luke Potter and Hunter Sowers. Newcomers to the varsity are Mason Huffman, Isaac Lucas, Marcus Donithan, Josh Craft, Garris Tasting, Nathan Blankenship and Joe Parker. JP Huffman and Roland Donithan will assist Mick.
“We’re all very excited for the season ahead,” said Mick. “We’re putting in the work, beginning to build a strong foundation and ready to compete. The goal is to keep improving every day, play hard, and show that we belong. We know we have the talent, and now it’s about execution and consistency.”
Mick is looking to improve on last year’s 5-13 record. The Rockets were scheduled to play at Staunton River on Monday and they’re headed to Bland County Thursday. They’re off next week for spring break, returning to the diamond for their home opener against Staunton River on March 31.
