Craig County Historical Society has announced a scholarship fund for eligible Craig County High School 2025 seniors. The fund will be in memory of Mary Page Cosby, an educator for over 39 years and member of the Society since 1995.
Cosby served as Historical Society secretary, newsletter editor and fund-raiser. She was booth chairman of the Fall Festival for several years and known for really good chocolate cakes at Hotel Dinners. She is well-remembered for helping her third grade students in 1993 save extra lunch money which was donated for the renovation of the School Room on the third floor of the Old Brick Hotel. Cosby was editor of three “In & Around Craig County” books which give the long and colorful history of Craig County Public Schools. She tells about her third graders in the 2007 “In and Around” book on page 19.
Cosby and her husband, Frank Cosby, were originally from the Richmond area and worked as educators in Southwest Virginia. He served as Craig County School superintendent from 1974 to 1978. Cosby held positions of classroom teacher and reading specialist at McCleary Elementary and several roles in the Craig County School Administration Office.
Frank passed away from complications of lung disease in 2008. Mary Page passed suddenly in December of 2024. They are survived by their son, Michael, and four grandchildren, “the apples of their eye”: Anthony, Caddie, Skyler, and Seaver Rodrigues.
