Shirley Jean Adams Harnsberger, age 86, of Salem passed away peacefully Friday, November 22, 2024, after a battle with Parkinson’s. Shirley was born and raised in Craig County, Virginia, the youngest child of Cline and Ruth Adams. She was a retiree of Verizon.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Bruce L. Harnsberger, Jr and dear friend Donald R. Cook; brothers: Aubrey, Lawrence, Gerald, Harold and Wayne and sister Edith Caldwell.

Shirley was a strong believer in family and survived by sisters-in-law, Hattie Adams (Follansbee, WV), Nancy Adams (Salem, VA), and Betty Harnsberger (Cleveland, TN) and 14 nieces and nephews and their families.

Shirley is also survived by her very dear friends Carolyn Couser, Inez Harmon and Rose Hedrick.

The family would like to thank the staff at Our Lady of the Valley for caring for Shirley for the past 3 years and Good Sam Hospice as she ended her battle with Parkinson’s. The family sincerely appreciates the many acts of kindness from the staff and the family atmosphere created for Shirley.

The family will receive friends for visitation at Salem Lotz Chapel on Saturday, December 7 at noon. A Celebration of Life will follow at 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Craig County Historical Society 141 Court Street, New Castle, VA 24127 or VFW Post 4491 295 Hunters Drive, New Castle, VA 24127-6211.
