Craig County voters cast their ballots

Election Day was last Tuesday across the country. Voters in Craig County cast their ballots in state-level and national races. 

Craig County voters weighed in on the following races: president and vice president of the United States, member of the United States Senate and member of the United States House of Representatives for the 9th District. 

Additionally, a proposed constitutional amendment for Virginia was also on the ballot. The proposal read: “Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended so that the tax exemption that is currently available to the surviving spouses of soldiers killed in action is also available to the surviving spouses of soldiers who died in the line of duty?”

The unofficial election results for New Castle as of press time are as follows:

President:

Kamala D. Harris and Tim Walz—17.32%

Donald J. Trump and JD Vance—81.71%

Jill E. Stein and Rudolph T. Ware III—0.10%

Chase R. Oliver and Mike ter Maat—0.26%

Claudia De la Cruz and Karina Garcia—0.03%

Cornel R. West and Melina Abdullah—0.13%

Senate:

Timothy M. Kaine—21.73%

Hung Cao—78.20%

House of Representatives:

Karen G. Baker—16/79%

  1. Morgan Griffith—83.01%

Amendment:

Yes—94.57%

No—5.43%

A total of 3,092 ballots were cast in Craig County.
