From the Archives: Eleven contestants will vie for Craig County Fair Crown

Pageant set for 8 p.m. 

From the August 17, 1994 edition of The New Castle Record  

       Tonight, Wednesday, Aug. 17, eleven young women will compete for the title of Miss Craig County Fair in a pageant to be held at the fairgrounds at 8 p.m.  This year’s pageant will be sponsored by the Craig County High School Beta Club with support from local merchants. 

    The girls will be performing a dance routine which is under the direction of Tory Fisher Frango and Tina Horn. There will also be a competition in evening gowns and a question-and-answer period for the finalists. 

     Judges’ interviews will take place during an afternoon reception.  There will also be special entertainment. The 1995 winner will be crowned by the 1994 Miss Craig County Fair, Kimberly Reynolds.

     Contestants for this year’s pageant are: Jessica Furrow, daughter of Melvin and Becky Hutchinson and a junior at Craig County High School; Angela Hanauer, daughter of Tina and James Hanauer and a sophomore at Radford University; Linda Hancock, daughter of Herbie and Sue Hancock and a senior at CCHS; Beverly Myers, daughter of Pat and Debbie Myers and a junior at CCHS; Laura Nelson, daughter of Amber and Charlie Nelson and a junior at CCHS; Christy Price, daughter of Rebecca and Ronald Price and a sophomore at Virginia Western Community College; Crystal Spangler, daughter of Bonny and Ellis Aesy and a junior at CCHS; Brandi Spence, daughter of Cindy and Thomas Spence and a senior at CCHS; Maggie Stebar, daughter of Jaes and Katherine Stebar and niece of Reese and Ken Wood and a junior at CCHS; Tina Via, daughter of Robert and Carolyn Via and a junior at CCHS; and Nicki Wilson, daughter of Billy and Karen Wilson and a senior at CCHS. 

     Master of ceremonies will be John Crenshaw. Admission will be $1 for adults and 50 cents for students and children over 5 years old.
