ROANOKE—Officials with the Bobby Scruggs Charitable Foundation recently announced the winners of its scholarships for 2024.
The $1,000 scholarships, which memorialize long-time NASCAR official and Roanoke resident James R. (Bobby) Scruggs, are awarded to young men and women pursuing careers in motorsports, the automotive industry, business or medicine, as well as to interns working for Motor Racing Outreach and Wake Forest University Research Center. Scruggs lost his 13-year battle with cancer in 2005.
BSC Foundation scholarship winners for 2024 are:

Taylor Randalyn Brayden Claud – Glenvar High School, attending Virginia Tech, majoring in automotive engineering.
- Lily L. Hutchison – Craig County High School, attending Virginia Western Community College, studying nursing, and transferring to Radford University to complete the RN Program
- Seth H. Parsons – Craig County High School, attending Virginia Tech, studying engineering
- Megan P. Pomerleau – Glenvar High School, attending Emory and Henry College, studying nursing

Emaleigh Radford Emaleigh G. Radford – Craig County High School, attending Virginia Tech, studying agriculture to become an agriculture teacher
- Eaton J. Sawyer – Franklin County High School, attending Virginia Western Community College, studying mechatronics
- Randalyn Grace Taylor – Craig County High School, attending Mary Baldwin University in the Virginia Women’s Leadership Institute with VMI to become a physicians assistant in the Navy
Since its inception, the foundation has awarded 166 scholarships to students at 26 high schools in Southwest Virginia. It also has supported 15 interns for MRO Children’s Ministry.
“The legacy of Bobby Scruggs continues through these students as they receive assistance to go into the world and motorsports,” said Dr. Jackie Scruggs Taylor, Scruggs’ widow and BSC Foundation president. “We are so proud of their accomplishments and wish them all the best in their future endeavors.”
