The Craig County softball team was scheduled to play Eastern Montgomery on Monday in Elliston in the first round of the Pioneer District playoffs. Narrows was at Parry McCluer for the other first round game and the Pioneer District championship and third place games will be next Monday, May 20th.

The Rockets fell to 3-6-2 overall with a 13-1 loss to Giles last week at home. The Rockets got off to a good start when Lily Hutchison hit a triple in her first at bat and Jenna Boitnotte got her home with a bunt. After that, however, the offense stalled as Boitnotte, Hayleigh Flowers ad Ashlyn Keen had one hit each.

“On defense, it was back to the same issues of not backing up our pitchers,” said Craig coach Elaine Wolfe-Carper. “We have both Kammie(Fisher) and Nevaeh(Hypes) back from injury but that doesn’t make much difference if we aren’t making plays behind them.”

Fisher pitched four innings and gave up only four hits and Nevaeh pitched two innings and gave up just two hits.

The Region 1C tournament will begin on May 23rd.
