Three talented Craig County Public School students were selected to showcase their artwork at the Craig County Courthouse. This honor is a testament to the student’s creativity and art education provided by our schools, organizers said. On Friday, April 19, a reception was held to recognize the students and unveil their works of art.
The Honorable Paul A Tucker, presiding judge for Craig County Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court, proposed the idea in January after learning of similar initiatives in surrounding court districts. When presented with the idea, the CCPS art teachers, Mrs. Frazier and Ms. Lantz, were eager and excited to help recognize their students. They were asked to select an art piece that showcased the talent of a student from the three CCPS systems.
Over the last several weeks, Craig County Combined District Court clerks, Patty Taylor and Lori Taylor, developed a partnership with the school art programs and arranged an “ART SHOWCASE” event. Those in attendance enjoyed light refreshments after an introduction of the artists by Judge Tucker.
Recognized students:
Bonnie Smith is in the second grade at McCleary Elementary School. Smith created a vibrant piece of art using collagraphy, a printmaking process. When she grows up, Smith would like to become a firefighter.
Maren All is in the seventh grade at Craig County Middle School. All’s talent for creativity can be seen in her mixed-media drawing artwork. Her future goal is to become a labor and delivery nurse.
Callie Musselwhite is a Craig County High School senior. Musselwhite’s artwork entitled ‘Mittens’ is an embroidered photograph of her cat. After graduation, she plans to attend Radford University to study studio art.
