The Craig County soccer team was scheduled to open the season this week with a game at Buffalo Gap on Monday evening.
The Rockets have a new coach this year as Joel Peterson takes over the reigns. Team captains are Sean Cady and Ava Greenway and other returnees include Sarah Hickson, Tanner Owens, Colby Wolfe, Montana Stein and Isaiah Nichols. Newcomers to the varsity are Noah Brierly, Elijah Green, Sean Villar, Aiden Crawford, Desiree Will and Austin Fowler. Several other players are possible but had not committed to the team at press time.
“Our goals for the season are to work hard but always have fun while maintaining great attitudes,” said Peterson. “We don’t have any illusions of winning a state championship, but we can use this season to promote a good work ethic and fair play as a building effort for the future.”
The Rockets are in Covington to take on the Boys’ Home on Thursday, followed by a trip to Narrows after spring break, on April 2nd. The first home game is Friday, April 5th, when the Rockets host Buffalo Gap.
