Have you driven into New Castle and noticed some trash along the way? Did you ever want to stop and pick it up? Now is your chance!
Craig County Public Library and Smoke in Chimneys Trout Hatchery are organizing a trash pick-up along Route 42 from the library to the hatchery. This is a difficult stretch to pull over and clean up by yourself. We thought it made sense to recruit a small group to tackle it together.
On Saturday, March 25, you can join us for a spring clean-up of that section. We’re meeting at the library in the morning at 9 a.m. We hope to have enough people to split into two groups, and each will cover about a mile and half of road. VDOT is supplying caution signs, vests, and trash bags. We ask volunteers to bring their own gloves and drinks for the morning. Given how this part of the road has limited visibility due to the curves, we ask for any volunteers to please be 18 or older.
If you can help, sign up at www.smokeinchimney.com/trash or call the library at (540)864-8978.
The library serves as the county’s visitor center. We felt this was a wonderful way to keep Craig beautiful both for those of us lucky enough to enjoy it all the time and for people that are just passing through.
