With the longevity of the COVID-19 crisis affecting the county, people have been posting wild and crazy hairdo stories on Facebook, due to not being able to get a haircut.

Amy Horton is happy to be reopening her business and welcoming all those long-haired customers.

Horton’s salon, Unique Hair Fashions, opened in 2013 and is located in the front area of the Food Country Store off Market Street.

Her love for doing hair began at a young age.

“I was a single, divorced young mom that needed a trade and I have always loved cutting hair even in high school,” Horton said. “I wanted to make people feel special, pampered and heard.”

She has been a cosmetologist for 24 years. She has managed and been a master hairstylist for Regis Corporation for 15 years.

When sharing her life story for the past few months, Horton said, “For me, the COVID-19 was needed. I lost my daddy, my hero, in December and I wasn’t handling grieving too well. The break gave me time to grieve and refresh my mind.”

Horton is happy to announce she is now open and can take customers by call-in appointments.

“I offer men, women and children haircuts, high lighting, foil, color, perms, iron out, shampoo and sets,” Horton said.

Horton offers a tanning bed for those who like to enjoy a snippet of warmth on their bones or simply get a head start on a tan.

Recently, while cutting a young man’s hair, Horton was happy to be in her element. The young man’s bangs had grown almost down to his chin. Once everything was done, she said, he looked even more handsome.

Horton also has a tanning bed for those who like to get a head start on their summer tan.

“My tanning bed has brand new bulbs,” she mentioned. “It is also a bronzing bed, so it is stronger.”

Tanning sessions are $7 each or $25 for a month to tan.

For an appointment, call (540) 864-5100 or catch her on Facebook at Unique Hair Fashions.

“I also offer discounts for police, first responders, veterans and military,” Horton noted before adding, “I welcome you to give me a call to set up your hair and tanning needs.”
