From left to right, Virginia McWhorter-MGC Scholarship Committee Chair Virginia McWhorter, award recipient Maggie Huffman and Maggie’s mother, Angie Huffman.

Maggie Huffman, a senior at Craig County High School and a resident of the Sinking Creek area of the county, was recently chosen to receive the club’s R. H. Reynolds Scholarship for the 2018-19 school year. Accompanied by her mother and brother, she graciously accepted her certificate and monetary award at the June meeting of the MGC.

In her acceptance speech, Maggie noted that this award is particularly special to her as her grandmother, Linda Huffman, was a longtime member of the club, and as well, her great-grandmother, Millie Jones, was a founding member. During her childhood, both relatives spoke highly of the joy they both found in the fellowship among the members and the pride they took in the community work of the club. Maggie plans to attend Virginia Western Community College in the fall and eventually pursue a career in Radiology.
