Craig County graduate Olivia Garman, a freshman on the Louisburg Junior College softball team, was given one of college softball’s highest honors when she was tabbed First Team All-American by “Fastpitch News.”

“This is a really exciting honor for Liv,” said Head Coach Eric Lee. “I couldn’t have hand picked a kid any more deserving. She is not only a great player, but she’s a great student and valuable member of the campus community here at Louisburg.”

Garman had a season to remember in her first campaign with the Hurricanes, putting up tremendous offensive numbers. On the season she batted .467 with a staggering 1.360 OPS (On Base Percentage plus Slugging Percentage). She added 11 home runs, 11 doubles, 43 RBI, 39 runs scored and 57 total hits in a short 39 game season.

“The pride I feel receiving this honor is immense, and I am beyond thankful,” said Garman.  “Without this team and this coaching staff I wouldn’t be where I am today.  I truly feel blessed and will be forever grateful.”

The Craig County High School product was also named Region X Player of the Year for her efforts in 2018.

The Louisburg College Softball team will return only four players in 2019, but they will bring back three All-Region performers. Along with Garman, the Canes bring back Region X Pitcher of the Year, Mary Anna Clement, as well as All-Region Outfielder Abbi Colclough and Redshirt Freshman LeeAnn Kluk who sat out the 2018 campaign.

Added to the mix among the four returners will be a host of new faces in freshmen and transfers to help the Canes look for a third straight Region X crown.
