The Craig County Rockets saw their baseball season come to an end in the Region 1C tournament last week. The Rockets lost a quarterfinal game to the host Maroon Tide in Galax, 14-3.

Craig had five hits in the game, including two by Dalton McPherson. Dakota Henderson, Jake Robertson and Hunter Jones had one hit each.

Henderson started on the mound for Craig and pitched the first three innings. Jesse Brizendine came on in the fourth but couldn’t get out of the inning and Christian Fisher went the rest of the way.

The Rockets finished the season with a 2-8 record, with about half the season lost due to rainouts. The weather made it tough for Craig to develop any kind of momentum.

“We never really got in a groove,” said Price. “We had one of the more competitive teams we’ve had since I’ve been coach but could never get more than one game in each week.”

Craig had three seniors, Brizendine, Ryan Lucas and Jakob Jones. Price is looking for even more improvement next year.

“We’ve got a ton coming back who saw a lot of playing time,” he said. “Our record could have been a lot better this year. We lost a lot of close games, but at least it was nice to be in the games.”
