The Craig County baseball team had a doubleheader last week and split two games with Bath County in Hot Springs. The Rockets dropped the first game, 7-5, but rallied to win the second, 5-3.
In the opener both teams hung a “five” on the board in the second inning. However, Bath scored two more in the third and the Rockets were shut out the rest of the way. Jesse Brizendine was the tough luck loser on the mound in relief of Dakota Henderson. Dakota had six strikeouts in just two innings pitched.
At the plate, Christian Fisher had a triple for the Rockets and Dalton McPherson had a double.
Devin Hutchison started on the mound in the second game and picked up the win, fanning four over three innings. Jake Robertson struck out the side in the fourth to earn a save in the four-inning game.
Henderson and McPherson had two hits each to spark the offense. Dakota had two doubles and scored twice and McPhereson also had a double and an RBI. Robertson and Hutchison also had doubles.
With the win Craig improved to 1-4. The Rockets were rained out of a game with Montcalm last Friday, and that will most likely not be made up.
This week the Rockets were scheduled to play at Parry McCluer on Tuesday, followed by a home game with Eastern Montgomery on Thursday. Next Monday the Rockets play a doubleheader in Covington.
