McClanahan, Elizabeth “Libby” P.

Elizabeth (Libby) P. McClanahan, 101, of New Castle, Virginia, passed away Saturday, April 21, at her family home where she lived all her life. Libby was born on December 5, 1916, third from the oldest of ten children.


Libby graduated from New Castle High School in 1934. She was a life member of the New Castle Methodist Church where she attended regularly until bad health kept her at home. She was also a life member of the Craig County Historical Society. Libby retired from Mick or Mack after working for over 40 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, son; Charles Stanley, parents; John and Hannie Pendleton, brothers and wives; William (Clara), James (Corky), Herbert (June), sisters; Linda Pendleton, Esther (Clifton) Elmore, Eleanor (Pete) Unroe and Elsie (Herby) Layman.

She is survived by sister and brother-in-law; Eva and Lawrence Vines of Buchanan, VA; a special brother and sister-in-law; Jesse C. and Barbara Pendleton; a special nephew James Pendleton who checked and did for her daily; twin grandsons and wives that she loved dearly and looked so forward to their visits, William (Jenette) and Robert (Holly) McClanahan; daughter-in-law, Becky McClanahan Salem, VA; and numerous dear nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Lewis Gale Rehab Center for their loving care, for the kind people who delivered her meals on wheels, for the care of Amedisys Hospice and the care she received from two special nieces; Francis and Emogene, also Jennifer and Beth when Libby Came home. A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. on Monday, April 23, at Paitsel Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor John David Elmore. The family received friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Monday, April 23, 2018. www.paitselfh.com
