With a new ‘lease’ on life, Club Camp Mitchell (CCM) is coming alive with some new ideas to keep the facility up and running as well as provide a variety of great functions for the community of Craig County.

On Saturday, March 24, Camp Mitchell was rented by Greenway’s Real Estate and Auction Company for a liquidation auction. Over 75 people attended to obtain a good deal possibly. “There was a great turn out, some great deals and delicious food,” Crystal Parker, Events Planner for CCM said.

Items available for purchase included; air conditioners, refrigerators, washers and dryers, TV’s, leaf blowers, vehicle jacks, tools, media stands, electronics, vacuum cleaners and much more. One couple, which had a stack of things they had already purchased, said “this is better than going to Wal-Mart. You can sit and shop.”

The water day camp last summer was a big hit with the kids. Many are already asking for it again this year.

The Camp Mitchell team is working diligently to raise funds to provide a facility where kids and teens, as well as adults, can enjoy some play time. The fee of $500 was charged for Greenway’s to rent the building that day, which Nobles shared would really help in paying the bills. Robin Nobles is the President of CCM and the heart behind the hopeful refurbishing of Camp Mitchell.

“There is a lot going on at Camp Mitchell,” Crystal shared. “There have been several activities going on since Camp Mitchell has re-opened.” Also, some AAU travel basketball teams use CCM for practices.

• Every Sunday is pick-up basketball when several members come.

• Every Tuesday and Thursday, from 7 to 9 p.m., is the open gym. (Open gym isn’t just for the kids. Adults can play basketball and volleyball as well.)

• There’s also a bouncy house, pool tables, ping pong, air hockey and more.

During open gym, CCM has an open snack bar where hotdogs, pizza, cheese nachos, hot pockets, candy bars, chips and drinks can be purchased.

“So far, we have had great open gym turnouts of 30-plus members,” Parker added. “It is a lot of fun, and a great way to spend time with others.”

Annual membership is only $25 which can be paid at CCM. Special packages are offered for families as well. If you attend an individual event and are not a member, the fee is five dollars.

The membership fee also includes free entry to all member activities, reduced entry to public activities and gym rental for birthday or family parties.

To rent CCM, contact Crystal Parker at 540-580-8506. Also, search CCM on Facebook for more information.

Any ideas the community has would be welcomed to the committee. Hopes are to have indoor flea markets and dancing weekends. Other ideas suggested have been wrestling shows, music concerts, Bingo, overnight camping, summer sports camps, music classes, cooking classes and first aid classes.

“During the summer, there will be mini-camps like soccer, water theme, kickball, volleyball and others,” Parker shared. Last year the water day was a great success. We hope to see you at Camp Mitchell activities.”
