Preserve Craig: Challenging MVP in court

Bill Wolf, Co-Chair, Inc.

Numerous lawsuits and appeals are moving forward to block the completion of the Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP). These are not futile efforts, for so many reasons.

First, we have a responsibility to do everything we can to protect our quality of life and this special place, even if it appears that we are sometimes losing. Second, we cannot let this be a precedent for allowing other projects to be proposed here. In the long run, we must succeed in protecting our water, soil and mountains and our communities.

MVP is rushing to cut trees and build access roads before all permits are in place because they are under severe pressure to meet regulatory and financial deadlines. The economics of this project is like a Ponzi scheme that allows stealing from the public, being perpetrated by out-of-state convicted criminals. This past week the President of EQT, majority owner and managing partner of MVP, suddenly resigned, apparently in response to serious problems with its stock prices, questionable plans to split into two companies and changes in the economics of gas pipelines.

Legal fund to protect our forests nearing goal

Preserve Craig has raised over $17,500 toward the $30,000 needed to fund the lawsuit against the Forest Service. The Fourth District Federal Court in Richmond, Virginia, will hear the case in May. We must stop the Forest Service from violating our rights and their rules by setting illegal precedents that would grant private companies, like EQT, a known environmental criminal, to harm this special Mountain-Valley region for private gain. Can you help us protect our public lands? Please donate to so we can reach our goal and protect Craig County and this special place.

Preserve Craig, Inc. is a 501C3 nonprofit volunteer public charity formed in 1991 to protect our natural, historical and cultural resources. Tax-deductible donations can be made online at www.preservecraig.org or by mail to Preserve Craig, Inc., PO Box 730, New Castle, VA. 24127. Phone: 540-309-9560. Email: [email protected].
