On February 22, over 500 people attended the Fifth Annual One School One Book Family Night at McCleary Elementary School. This year’s book was The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo. Judging by the conversations from the classrooms and in the hallway that night, it might be the most popular book yet!

Morgan Underwood, Adalynn Zimmerman, Nicole Zimmerman and Ava Greenway building a bunny.

The activities started at 6 p.m., and many excited people were in line before then. There was much laughter as excited students – along with their families – tried to decide what to do first. The Build a Bunny room quickly became the favorite spot. Students were able to make their very own bunny as a souvenir from Edward’s Journeys. Each grade level had a game for students to play and earn free prizes. Most of the games carried the rabbit theme of the night, “And the fun didn’t stop there!” Outside was a petting zoo, complete with several rabbits dressed in clothing that had something to do with one of the many adventures the students and families read about. The cafeteria served a free meal for everyone, and inside the auxiliary gym were bouncy houses. Students also had the chance to take the AR test on the book and earn AR points.

The grand finale was at 7:45 p.m. with prize drawings, including the grand prize – a live rabbit complete with everything it needed to feel at home. The students had gotten to know Oreo while visiting the guidance room every week over the past several months.

This year’s prize winners from the OSOB family night were:

  • Real Bunny and Accessories – Kammie Fisher
  • Bike – Landon Wood
  • Large Stuffed Bunny – Addison Francisco
  • Bunny Cake – Blake Kendall
  • Four Tickets to the Launching Pad – Sean Cady

  • Pine Top Gift Cards – Mason Huffman and Tyler Huffman
  • Set of Books by Kate DiCamillo – Andrew Musselwhite and Kolby Shires
