Lewis hoop girls win two, boys split

The season opened last Thursday against Read Mountain opponents and the girls played at home. They had no trouble with the Starz, taking a 42-9 win after racing to a 32-3 halftime lead.

Abbie Baker and Rachel Lafrancois had 10 points each to lead a balanced scoring attack that saw eight Wolverines score. Baker also added seven rebounds and a block and  Kennedy Scales contributed six assists and four steals.

“The girls played really hard defensively, moved the ball well on offense and were able to knock down some shots,” said coach Nat Franklin. “I’m really happy for the girls and that everyone got to contribute to this victory.”

On Tuesday at Hidden Valley the girls were all over the Eagles, taking a 47-2 win. Lewis shut out the home team in the first half. Mariah Gahl had seven points and Zoe Robtison had four steals.

The Lewis boys lost at Read Mountain in their opener, but bounced back with a 49-34 win over Hidden Valley at Lewis Tuesday. Tanner Dallas had 13 points and Hunter Bayne had a big night on the boards.

“I was impressed with our overall performance,” said coach Brandon Keith. “Each of our players did their duty while on the floor. We handled the ball well, played poised, played smart, and capitalized on turnovers and loose balls. This was a great team win for us.”

The Wolverines are back in action next Monday when the boys host Cave Spring and the girls play at Cave Spring Middle.
