Roanoke College has home swim meet Saturday at the Salem YMCA

[ad_1]

Bird, a freshman from Port Hope, Ontario, picked up her second weekly honor after helping Roanoke defeat Virginia Wesleyan in a dual meet. Bird won twice individually in the meet, posting a time of 24.88 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle and 1:00.34 in the 100-yard backstroke. The freestyle time is second-fastest in the ODAC, while her backstroke time is 0.01 seconds from duplicating the same classification.

McGrath, a freshman from Centreville, Va., is the first men’s swimmer to win a weekly award in Roanoke’s young history. McGrath won a pair of individual events and aided the Maroons in a relay victory to help Roanoke to a dual meet victory over VWU. McGrath won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.13 seconds, which ranks sixth on the ODAC top times list. He added a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:02.43, which is third-fastest in the league so far this season. McGrath and his teammates claimed a win in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:45.66, which is third in the conference.

Roanoke is home this Saturday to host Randolph, Ferrum and Hollins at the Salem YMCA at 4 pm.
