The Craig County football team will celebrate “Senior Night” this Friday and there’s nothing the boys would like better than to go out with a win.

Camron Fisher(#6) makes the most of a direct snap and picks up a first down.

Chase Huffman(#66) makes the tackle from behind.

Dakota Henderson(#8) calls his own number and picks yardage.

Kyle Sloss(#12) drags a defender to pick up yards for the Rockets.

Craig will play host to Eastern Montgomery on Mitchell Field, and it will be a big affair to end the season. Members of the Virginia Tech “Marching Virginians” will be on hand to liven up the place and the opponent, Eastern Montgomery, is a team the Rockets can match up with. East Mont is just 2-7 coming in and has numbers similar to Craig County.

“We can beat them, but we’ll have to play our best,” said Craig coach Mark Harrison. “They’re a lot like us. The team that makes the fewest mistakes is going to win.”

Harrison knows what he’s up against, as he was an assistant coach at East Mont last year and is very familiar with their personnel. East Mont beat Craig last year for their only win, and Harrison would love to turn that around in his first year on this side of the mountain.

“We’ve been needing a win all year long,” he said. “It would be a tremendous boost to our program if we can end the season with a ‘W’.”

The Rockets were overmatched last week as they dropped a 44-19 decision to Covington. The Cougars improved to 6-3 behind their standout back, K.J. Moore.

“He’s a Division I player,” said Harrison. “There wasn’t much we could do with him, but our boys kept fighting. These kids never give up.”

Covington led 36-0 before the Rockets answered, scoring on a 31 yard pass play. Dalton McPherson ran for two late TDs.

“We scored three touchdowns against a good team and no one got hurt,” said Harrison. “We’re taking small steps, but as long as we keep moving forward I’m satisfied.”
