The Salem High team will have to win the tournament today to advance to the state, which will be held at the Glenrochie Country Club in Abingdon on October 9 and 10. The top five individuals from the region also advance.

Blacksburg is the heavy favorite to win the regional today. The Bruins have not only been posting the best scores among the competitors, they’re also playing on their home course at the Blacksburg Country Club.

Glenvar played in the Region 2D tournament at the Ashley Plantation on Tuesday. Appomattox High won the tournament and a spot in the state. Glenvar shot 409, with Eddie Bell leading the Highlanders with a 91. Tyler Smith and Jake Skelton both had 100 and Maddie Givens had 118. Jillian Drinkard was medalist with a 68.

The Highlanders finished seventh in the Three Rivers District tournament at the Hanging Rock Golf Course last week. Giles won the tournament with a team score of 320 and Radford was runnerup, four strokes behind.

The Highlanders shot 404, led by a 96 by Skelton. Ball shot 98, Smith had 103 and Givens rounded out the Glenvar scoring with a 107.
