For the fifth consecutive year, Radford University has been recognized as a “Best Bang for the Buck” institution by Washington Monthly Magazine in its annual College Guide and Rankings.
Radford was ranked 27th – up from 54th last year – out of 256 schools in the “Southeast” category of the magazine’s rankings, which assess affordability, access and student outcomes. Twenty Virginia schools – private and public – made the top 100 in the regional rankings and among its sister institutions in the Commonwealth. Radford ranked fifth.
Among the 13 Virginia public institutions ranked in the list’s top 100 tier, Radford ranked fourth.
“Higher education offers a rich selection of choices, so helpful data like this which highlights Radford’s unique and valuable offerings will assist families in making sound decisions about their student’s future,” said Vice President of Enrollment Management Kitty McCarthy. “The value of a Radford University degree and the Radford experience is real.”
For the 2016-17 academic year, Radford’s expenses (tuition, fees, room and board) made it the third most affordable public four-year institution in the Commonwealth, according to the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
Washington Monthly’s college rankings rate institutions based on three criteria: social mobility, research and service. Washington Monthly also rates colleges that are doing the best job of helping students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices.
In Washington Monthly’s rankings of National Universities-Master’s Degrees, Radford was ranked No. 131 out of 632, or in the top 25 percent.
