NRV musical road show encompasses a variety of events

The eighth annual Passport to the Musical Road Show is a way for residents to help promote musical education in the New River Valley. Those interested can email nrvfriends@gmail.com.

The New River Valley Friends of the Roanoke Symphony is a volunteer arm of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra. This group is dedicated to supporting RSO events in the New River Valley and to promoting musical education and awareness in New River Valley schools.


The NRV Friends encourage all resident of the NRV to participate in their programs including taking a journey to six musical events in the Eighth Annual Passport to the Musical Road Show.

The Passport Road Show is the only fundraiser event to allow music enthusiast to peruse the many “stops,” picking one and making a reservation. Each “stop” features a unique musical attraction and tasty eatables; this Road Show is an experience not to be missed. The cost is $50.00 per person per event. Reservations are limited to forty guests at each event. Most events are scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m..

Stop One is called “Music with a Twang” featuring the Mike Mitchell Trio at a home in Blacksburg on Friday, Sept. 1. Sponsors of this event will include a BBQ meal catered by Professional Catering.

Stop Two is “Music and The Maestro Center Stage” at the Moss Arts Center on the Virginia Tech campus on Tuesday, Sept. 19. RSO Maestro David Stewart Wiley will plan on a Steinway grand piano along with Julee Hickcox on flute and John Smith on bass. Heavy hors d’oeuvres and a wine bar will be offered.

Stop Three will be “Music with a Dixieland Beat” with a return Passport performance of the River Boat Rambler at the Pulaski Jackson Park Inn. Guest will enjoy a beer and wine bar plus a light buffet catered by the inn on Friday, September 29th.

Stop Four will be a gourmet lunch from 1-3 p.m. at a home in Blacksburg on Sunday, Oct. 1. Our Daily Bread and Bistro will provide wine and food while guests hear classical Bach music with violin, flute, cello and harpsichord.

Stop Five will be “Music that Sings” from the members for the Radford University Music Department at the Nesselrod Bed and Breakfast in Radford. Feast and Company will provide a cocktail party on Monday, Oct. 9.

The last Passport stop will be at the Warm Hearth Retirement Community near Blacksburg. “Music and All That Jazz” will offer toe-tapping bass, keyboard and drum pleasure. Savories, canapes, beer and wine will be catered by The Village Gourmet.
