Eagle Rock VFD Parade Marshal for Buchanan July 4th Parade
Buchanan is going outside the community to fill the honorary position of Parade Marshal for the annual Firemen’s Fourth of July Parade next Tuesday afternoon.
The Eagle Rock Volunteer Fire Department will serve as Parade Marshal in memory of fallen firefighter Roger Johns and the severely injured Alan Wright. Johns died while helping at a wreck on US 220 in May and Wright nearly drowned while helping on a water rescue during the June 2016 flooding in Alleghany County.
For decades, the Eagle Rock Volunteer Fire Department has been a regular participant in the Buchanan Firemen’s Fourth of July Parade, and this year those volunteers will be recognized for their service and to remember how dangerous that service can be.
The parade is at 5 p.m. on Main Street. Line up begins at 4 p.m.
Fireworks in Fincastle, Buchanan
There are two opportunities to see fireworks on the Fourth of July.
- Fincastle started holding a Fourth of July Party in the 1990s on the playing fields at Breckinridge Elementary School, and will again have fireworks on Tuesday. The fireworks display will start at dark, but visitors are invited to make an evening of it with a picnic dinner, and to invite friends and neighbors. Paige Ware will be passing the hat for donations to pay for the fireworks.
- The Buchanan Community Carnival has been setting off fireworks to end the Independence Day activities, and that continues for the 64th year on Tuesday on the Carnival Grounds, Lowe Street. The fireworks show starts at 10 p.m.
