The two Three Rivers District rivals battled to a scoreless tie through regulation time. One overtime didn’t decide it, but Auburn finally broke through with 1:23 remaining in the second overtime to pull out the win.

Glenvar finished the season with a record of 10-5-2. Last week they beat Martinsville and James River to win the Conference 38 championship in Martinsville at the Smith River Sports Complex.

In the semifinals Kaleigh Drew had two goals and Kelci Horner had one goal and one assist. Kira Pierce also had assist as Chynna Carmichael and Meghan Thompson recorded the 3-0 shutout.

On Friday Glenvar won the conference tournament by defeating James River, at team they had lost to 5-2 just a week prior. This time the Highlanders scored two again, but held the Knights to one goal for the victory.

Taylor Dishon and Ashley Zaronsky each had a goal and Kelci Horner had two assists. Carmichael had an outstanding game in the goal with 19 saves as the GHS girls won a district or conference championship for the first time in school history.

This was the first time in school history that girls soccer won a district or conference championship.
