Dalton McPherson is nipped on a close play at first.

Two Auburn pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter and eliminate Craig County in the first round of the Conference 45 baseball tournament last week.

Keith Reed and Jeremy Thomas combined for a 10-0 win for the Eagles, who would go on to win the conference tournament, including a 10-0 win over Covington in the championship game.

“They threw their ace against us and we struggled,” said Craig coach Brady Price. “The most pitches they threw in an inning was 15.”

Dakota Henderson took the loss for the Rockets, but brighter days are ahead. Henderson, a freshman, was named second team All-Pioneer District as a pitcher, one of two Rockets honored. Sophomore Devin Hutchison was honorable mention at shortstop.

Craig finished the season at 2-13 with a very young team. The Rockets had just one senior, Chad Ryan, and one junior Jesse Brizendine. The rest of the team was comprised of sophomores and freshmen and they made huge strides as the season progressed.

“We showed we could play with some good teams,” said Price. “The future is bright going forward if they continue to put in the work and the time.”

Brandon Swingle makes the tag at second.
