Craig County’s Lynsey Taylor placed 5th in the 1600 m race and later finished 3rd in the 3200 m race at the 1A West Region championship meet at Radford High School.

The Craig County track team will have three girls participating in the Group 1A state meet, scheduled for this Friday and Saturday at East Rockingham High School in Elkton, VA. All three qualified with strong efforts in the Region 1A West meet at Radford High School last Saturday.

Despite having just three girls in the meet, Craig County finished 10th in the team standings out of 24 schools. The Auburn girls won the region title while the Patrick Henry-Glade Spring boys won their meet.

Craig’s Lynsey Taylor finished third in the 3,200 with a time of 13:30.87 and fifth in the 1,600 at 6:01.97. Olivia Menzes also placed in two events, including a fourth in the long just at 16’ 05”, nearly a foot better than her previous best. Olivia was also eight in the 200 with a time of 28.05, which was also a personal best for her.

In the throwing events Autumn Huffman placed in both the shot put and discus. Autumn was third in the discus at 109’ 5.5” and eighth in the shot.

Craig County’s Olivia Menezes placed 4th in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet and 1/2 inch at the 1A West Region meet. Menezes also competed in the 100 and 200 m dash events.
