Glenvar’s boys were shut out by Floyd County, 2-0, on Monday at Highlander Stadium in the play-in game for Conference 38. That ends Glenvar’s season at 5-9.

Meanwhile, the girls defeated Buckingham County at home in their opening conference game, 7-0, to advance to the region semifinals scheduled for the Smith River Complex in Martinsville on Wednesday. The Highlanders were scheduled to play Martinsville, and the winner of that game earns a Region 2A berth and a spot in the Conference 38 final.

The girls finished the regular season with three conference games last week. The Highlanders beat Floyd County, 7-0, and Radford, 2-1. It was the first time ever the Glenvar girls beat the Bobcats in soccer as Kelci Horner and Emily Stewart scored goals and Chynna Carmichael had a dozen saves.

On Friday the Highlanders concluded the regular season with a 5-2 loss to James River, giving the Highlanders an 8-4-2 regular season record.

In Monday’s win over Buckingham County Horner had two goals and two assists and Kyleigh Drew had one goal and an assist.
