The Craig County softball team will be looking to solidify their spot in the Conference 45 tournament as they wrap up the regular season this week.

Hannah Lipes stands in the box.

The Rockets came into the week at 7-7 with four games on the docket. The Rockets were at Covington Monday, at Parry McCluer Tuesday, they’re at Narrows today and home to Auburn on Friday. A win over Covington Monday was expected to be good enough for a home game when the Conference 45 tournament begins next Monday, May 22.

Friday is “Senior Night” for the girls. This year Craig has five seniors, Olivia Garman, Hannah Lipes, Shaleigh Mayo, Olivia Menezes and Savannah Looney, who hoping to return from a wrist injury this week.

The Rockets got just one game in last week as the rain came hard and often. Craig beat Covington in New Castle, 9-4, behind a complete game effort by Olivia Garman, who also had four hits and two runs batted in.

Keiley Dudding fires from third.

Craig had 14 hits for the game. Tierrney Zysk had two hits, including her fourth home run of the season. She also had three RBIs.

“Tierrney is really starting to heat up,” said coach Trent Lipes. “She’s been hitting the ball well.”

Hannah Lipes, Kaylee Pauley and Mackenzie Hutchinson all had two hits each for the Rockets.

Craig had a game with Radford scheduled for last week that will not be made up.
