Olivia Garman pitched a two-hit shutout and Craig County had 10 hits as the softball team beat Eastern Montgomery on Thursday. The Rockets took a 10-0 slaughter-rule win in New Castle.

Garman struck out nine and allowed just two hits in the win. Offensively, Mackenzie Hutchinson, Shaleigh Mayo and Kaylee Pauley had two hits each for the Rockets and Pauley drove in three runs.

The win lifted Craig to 3-7 overall after losing an 8-5 game to Parry McCluer in New Castle on April 18. The Rockets touched Blues’ ace pitcher Kelsey Martin for 11 hits in that game but left too many on base.

“We couldn’t get the hits when we needed them,” said coach Trent Lipes. “We had a tough time against Martin last year but this time we hit her pretty good, we just couldn’t get the hits when we had runners on base.”

Garman was four-for-four to lead the Rockets. Hannah Lipes and Tierrney Zysk had two hits each, and Zysk had a solo home run.

Garman pitched and took the loss despite allowing just two earned runs. Martin had a three-run homer for the Blues and had five runs batted in for the game.

The Rockets were scheduled to play at Narrows on Monday but that game was rained out and rescheduled for May 18. Craig will play a doubleheader at Bath County on Friday, with two five inning games, and Monday they’re scheduled to host Auburn in a makeup game. A day later, on May 2, they’ll return the trip to East Mont.
