The Glencoe Mansion, Museum and Gallery is located at 600 Unruh Drive, and the rededication ceremony is Tuesday, April 4.

The Radford Heritage Foundation is pleased to announce the rededication of the Glencoe Museum as the Glencoe Mansion, Museum & Gallery.

The event will begin with a reception at 5 p.m. at the Glencoe Mansion. Guests will have the opportunity to meet with descendants of the Wharton Family who owned the mansion for 106 years.

The Foundation will celebrate this new name with a rededication ceremony and ribbon cutting on Tuesday, April 4, 2017. The Glencoe Mansion is located at 600 Unruh Drive in Radford.

The event will begin with a reception at 5 p.m. at the Glencoe Mansion. Guests will have the opportunity to meet with descendants of the Wharton Family who owned the mansion for 106 years.

There will also be a meet and greet with historians William C. “Jack” Davis, Robert C. Whisonant and Michael Pulice, whose fields of expertise cover the Civil War, Geology and Architecture. The Ribbon Cutting will take place at 6:00 pm, sponsored by the Radford Chamber of Commerce.

Capping off the evening there will be a special history presentation by acclaimed Civil War historian William C. “Jack” Davis at 6:30 p.m. Davis will present his talk, “Love Among the Ruins: The Confederate Courtship of General Gabriel C. Wharton and Nannie Radford Wharton.” The talk is based on information gleaned from over 500 wartime letters written between the couple. The presentation will take place in the General District Courtroom in the Radford Municipal Building at 619 Second Street in Radford.

The Radford Heritage Foundation is instituting the name change to the Glencoe Mansion to highlight the historic nature of the museum site, which is the 1875 home of the Wharton family. The full name Glencoe Mansion, Museum & Gallery better informs guests to the nature of the museum, which is three museums in one: house museum focusing on the history of the Wharton family; history exhibits highlighting key people and events in Radford’s history; and art gallery featuring the works of talented regional artists.

Everyone is welcome to attend. There is no admission charge.
