Tom Tanner from the Roanoke Regional Small Business Development Center in Roanoke will be the guest speaker for a Small Business program 7:00 pm, Thursday, March 16, 2017 in the Craig-Botetourt Electric Cooperative. The Small Business Center offers many services and programs to help new and established businesses. Tom has extensive knowledge in running a small business, spanning across several areas including multiple store operation, accounting, finance, small business taxes, marketing, business plan writing, strategic planning, project management and six sigma process improvement. He is an IRS Licensed Enrolled Agent (EA), has the PMP designation (Project Manager Professional), the EDFP (Economic Development Finance Professional) and QuickBooks Pro-Advisor. Other the last eight years he has worked with more than 1000 people who own, or want to start a small business.

Tom graduated with a degree in Economics and Finance from the Virginia Military Institute in 1978. After a tour of duty in the U.S. army, he returned to civilian life to work as a branch manager for a large corporation. In 1983, he and a few partners opened a photographic and computer graphic business Photo USA. There he served as Vice President of Operations for the chain of 25 stores in five states, later buying the Virginia locations. In 2006, he sold Photo USA after 23 years in the photographic business. He currently operates a part-time tax business during tax season.

This program is open to everyone, and there is no charge to attend. Additional programs covering topics to help small business operations can be offered in the future if there is enough interest. Suggestions are welcome, and a short form will be provided during the program so participants can list their interest. This program is being offered by the Craig County Public Library, Virginia SBDC Roanoke, and Virginia Cooperative Extension. Please pre-register by calling the Craig County Extension office at 540-864-5812, or the Craig County Public Library at 540-864-8978 by March 14.
