DOWNTOWN LUNCH SERIES BEGINS

Greene Memorial United Methodist Church in downtown Roanoke has again begun its Wednesday message and lunch series of services for the weeks of Lent preceding Easter on April 16. Speakers from several Roanoke Valley congregations are presenting a short message starting at 12:05 p.m. Worship ends at 12:30. This is followed by a church-prepared lunch for which a $5 donation is requested. Remaining speakers in the series are March 8:  Kevin Kinsey of Central Church of the Brethren; March 15: Tim Dayton of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ); March 22: Kathleen Overby Webster, superintendent of the Roanoke District of the United Methodist Church; March 29: Kenneth B. Wright of First Baptist-Gainsboro; April 5: Will Robinson of Salem Presbyterian and April 12: Steven Pollard of Calvary Baptist of Roanoke.


ST. PAUL’S ASSISTANT NAMED

The Rev. Robert Brodie, who has been serving as interim rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Fincastle, has joined the part time staff of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Salem as   assistant to the Rev. James Lively, rector. Brodie’s duties will include pastoral care and work with the several nursing/retirement homes in which the church provides weekly or monthly services.
