Kiwanis club annual pancake breakfast slated for March 18

The Montgomery County-Blacksburg Kiwanis Club is sponsoring a pancake breakfast Saturday, March 18, at Blacksburg United Methodist Church’s Whisner Building, 111 Church Street SE. Serving will be from 8 a.m.-11 a.m.


Tickets may be purchased at the door for $7.00 or from club members. Kiwanis uses all proceeds to support local children and youth by sponsoring Key Clubs at Blacksburg and Giles County high schools, the arts program at Prices Fork Elementary School, and Builders Club at Blacksburg Middle School.

The club stocks a food pantry for four and five year old at risk students and their siblings at Prices Fork and Eastern Montgomery Elementary Schools, supplies parents of newborn and young children with ID kits, purchases books for at risk pre-school children at 10 elementary schools, sponsors Salvation Army Christmas angels and serve as bell ringers, donates to Boy Scouts, Boys and Girls State, and Boys and Girls Club.

The club contributes to and volunteers at the Montgomery County Christmas Store and staffs the concession stand for Special Olympics basketball tournament.

Last year, the club donated $7,500 to Prices Fork Elementary School for the purchase of playground equipment for pre-kindergarten through 2nd grade students. Table sponsorships are available. For additional information, contact Gene Cliff at 552-4411 or ecliff@vt.edu.
