Glencoe Museum to host photography show by Susan Guess

Susan Guess

Glencoe Museum and Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of its new gallery exhibit featuring the photography of Susan Guess.

The eclectic show includes images of Southwest Virginia barns, Italian doorways and portraits. The Gallery will celebrate the opening with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10.

Photographer Susan Guess travels through life’s experiences viewing them through a photographic lens. Inspired by an article or image, she challenges herself to find a way to express that inspiration. Guess feels everyone’s art is special and in describing her own art she says, “For me I feel it is a gift. The precious face smiling back at me. The beauty of the landscape or ocean that is captured. It is the memory that can be given. It is important to be patient. Wait for the moment, the right lighting. Never be afraid of your decision. It’s yours. It’s your art.”

Originally from Connecticut and then a resident of Florida, Susan Guess has now lived in Virginia for over 15 years. All of these places and experiences have influenced her art. For her entire life she had gathered images in her mind and with instruction realized this was an artistic eye. After a traumatic brain injury, Guess went ever deeper into art, exploring new ways to express her artistic vision, which has greatly influenced her photography.

The Gallery at Glencoe is a great community venue for local artists to exhibit their talents and for the public to see the artistic traditions of the region. The Gallery is just one component of Glencoe Museum & Gallery. The museum is three museums in one: house museum, history museum and art gallery. There is always something new to see at Glencoe.

Everyone is welcome to attend the art opening. There is no admission charge. The photography of Susan Guess will be on display through March 31.
