The Craig County boys will be in Covington Friday for a Pioneer District basketball game. Craig dropped two games last week on back-to-back days.

On Wednesday of last week the Rockets lost to Bath County in Hot Springs, 38-13. Craig struggled to score, putting up just three points in the first half. The Rockets had a field goal in the first quarter and one free throw in the second quarter. Jess Brizendine led the scoring for Craig with six points on two threes.

On Thursday the Rockets played much better but lost to the Pioneer District’s newest member, Eastern Montgomery, 61-33 in New Castle. The Rockets were down just 28-20 with two minutes to go in the half before the Mustangs put on a spurt to score the last seven points of the half, and Craig never recovered.

“We had some bad passes and some bad turnovers,” said coach John Looney. “But I thought we played pretty good defense.”

Wyatt McPherson led the Rockets with nine points and a dozen rebounds. Looney also credited Nathan Nelson for some aggressive play on the defensive end.

The loss dropped Craig County to 1-10 on the season. The Rockets had their “Senior Night” at home against Parry McCluer on Monday, but results were too late for publication.

Following Friday’s game at Covington the Rockets will be at Narrows on Wednesday of next week, then return the trip to East Mont on Friday, February 3rd.
