The Salem High basketball team will try to snap a four game losing streak with two home games this week. Salem was scheduled to host William Byrd on Wednesday, and on Friday Pulaski County is here.

The Spartans fell to 2-10 on Tuesday when they dropped a 69-49 game to Patrick Henry in Roanoke. Salem was down nine at the half and Patrick Henry’s inside game hurt the Spartans.

“Their length inside really hurt us,” said Salem coach Kevin Garst. “Even when we got to the basket we had a hard time getting off a good shot, and we gave up a lot of second shots on the other end.”

Baylor Mabes led the Spartans with 15 points and Jacob Dobb had 13.

“We played hard,” said Garst. “They fought and competed hard, and that’s all you can ask.”

Last Friday at home the Spartans dropped a 70-46 game at Hidden Valley. Salem fell behind early, 21-7 after one quarter and 42-23 by the half. Isaiah Donaldson was the only Spartan in double figures with 14.

Next week the Spartans will stay busy, with back-to-back games against Blacksburg and Christiansburg to start the week. Blacksburg will come here on Monday for a makeup game and the Spartans will go to Christiansburg on Tuesday. Then, on Friday the 27th, Salem will return the trip to Blacksburg.
