Children’s Fishing Carnival Saturday in Buchanan

Children 15 and under are invited to enjoy the annual Botetourt Children’s Fishing Carnival this Saturday, June 6, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on the Buchanan Town Park on Lowe Street in Buchanan.

Children can enjoy a multitude of free activities, including a Fishing Contest in the James River, 6-and-under fishing in trout tanks, Casting Contests, Fish Facts Challenge, Team Fishing Contest, Kiddie Games, Gold Fish Eating Contest, Worms in the Dirt Contest, Fly Fishing Casting, air rifle shooting with the Botetourt Longbeards Chapter of the NWTF, inflatables, face painting, a coloring contest, door prizes and much more.

Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Lunch will be served to children and their families.

Registration will be done on site. The event is free. Kids should bring a fishing pole.

Free Fishing Days

The weekend of Friday-Sunday, June 5, 6 and 7, has been designated as Free Fishing Days in Virginia. No fishing license of any kind will be required for rod and reel fishing in freshwater or saltwater, except in designated stocked trout waters, on these days.

The Free Fishing Days coincide with the Botetourt County Children’s Fishing Carnival this Saturday, June 6, on the James River in Buchanan.
