Due to the possibility of winter weather, the Virginia Department of Transportation will reschedule a citizen information meeting on a proposed project to reconstruct the 10-mile section of Route 220 (Botetourt Road) between Iron Gate and the James River bridge near Eagle Rock in Botetourt County.

The meeting will be rescheduled for Thursday, March 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Eagle Rock Elementary School located at 145 Eagle’s Nest Drive in Eagle Rock.   The meeting was originally scheduled for Thursday, March 5.

The primary purpose of this project is to enhance safety along Route 220 by providing an upgraded two-lane road, improving vertical and horizontal alignment, widening shoulders, realigning intersections, adding turn lanes and creating additional passing zones. This proposed project would reconstruct Route 220 as a two-lane road and is intended to reduce the severity and number of crashes.

The citizen information meeting is being held to provide an opportunity for citizens or organizations to give VDOT input on the proposed project. The meeting will be held in an ‘open-house’ format with a brief presentation taking place at 5:15 and 6:15 p.m. VDOT representatives will be present to discuss the proposed project and to answer questions.

Comments about the project may be submitted at the meeting or until March 22, 2015, by mail to cCraig Moore, P.E., Virginia Department of Transportation, 731 Harrison Avenue, Salem, VA 24153.  E-mail comments can be sent to saleminfo@VDOT.virginia.gov.  Please reference “Route 220 Citizens Meeting Public Comment” in the subject heading.

Anyone requiring special assistance to attend and participate in this meeting may contact Craig Moore at 540-387-5353, 800-367-7623 or TTY/TDD 711.
