The Lord Botetourt girls remained unbeaten on the season through last week, but the Cavs have a tough one at home tonight.
The Botetourt girls will play host to Jefferson Forest in a non-district soccer game in Daleville tonight. Forest has one of the top girls in the area in freshman Katie Cousins, who is a member of the United States U-16 National Team.
“She’s a terrific player, and she’s very unselfish,” said LB coach Jamie Bednarek. “We’ll just try to contain her the best we can. It will be a good test for us.”
The Cavaliers come into the week at 6-0-1 overall and 3-0 in the Blue Ridge District after two wins last week, both in Daleville and both by shutout. The first victim was Rockbridge, as LB took a 3-0 win. Hollie Martin had two goals and Kennedi VanRavestein had one. Jade Lewis and Keller Spradlin had assists as LB outshot the visitors by over four to one for the game, dominating time of possession.
On Friday it was the same 3-0 score as LB beat visiting Staunton River. The Eagles only had a couple shot and LB keeper Mariah Martin had no trouble keeping them off the board.
Offensively, Kristi Bowman, Alli DuVall and VanRavestain had goals and Hollie Martin had an assist. DuVall’s goal came off a rebound of a penalty kick by Martin, as once again the Cavs peppered their opponent’s goal with 24 shots.
The Cavaliers were at Alleghany on Tuesday and today Jefferson Forest comes here. On Friday LB is home to Northside, and that might be their toughest district opponent.
“They worry me,” said Bednarek. “Northside’s going to be a tough one.”
