Montgomery Publishing, LLC entered into a purchase agreement to acquire seven sister community newspapers in the Roanoke Valley and New River Valley today.

Wayne Brockenbrough and Dolores Brockenbrough are principals in Montgomery Publishing, LLC and are former owners of the Radford News Journal and News Messenger in Montgomery County—two of the papers in the sale.

Salem Times-Register, The Fincastle Herald, The Vinton Messenger, Cave Spring Connection and The New Castle Record are the other newspapers involved in the sale.

Montgomery Publishing, LLC entered into the purchase agreement to acquire the newspapers from Montgomery County Newspapers, Inc. and Blue Ridge Newspapers, Inc.  The sale is expected to close in the next couple of weeks.

Brockenbrough said there would be no change in employment, and operations will not be interrupted during the transition. They are excited about the purchase, Brockenbrough said, adding that the strength of the employees was a factor in their decision to purchase the newspapers.

The sale includes the publishing operations and building on West Main Street in Salem where all of the newspapers are printed.

The Brockenbrough family has a long history in the newspaper industry and has owned other community newspapers in Southwest Virginia.
