FINCASTLE – Attic Productions’ fall presentation is the popular comedy “A Bad Year for Tomatoes,” and it opens Thursday in the D. Geraldine Lawson Theater for the Performing Arts near Fincastle.

This delightful John Patrick comedy takes place in a small New England town where Myra Marlowe, played by Wendy Neuman, has decided to retire from a lifetime of acting in terrible roles and write her autobiography.

Myra Marlowe, an actress fed up with her career, portrayed by Wendy Neuman, tries her hand at gardening in a small New England town. Her agent Tom, played by Jason Cordova, looks on in disbelief in Attic’s presentation of “A Bad Year for Tomatoes.”

Having never actually lived in a small town before, she mistakenly believes that she’ll have lots of peace and quiet to accomplish this task. After repeated visits from her nosey and down right strange neighbors threaten to drive her mad, she finds a way to discourage most of her them from visiting. Unfortunately for her, things aren’t quite as they appear and mis-conclusions lead to trouble, causing Myra to question her choice of locations for her respite.

Jason Cordova plays her persistent agent, and the rest of the cast includes Melanie Boyd, Michael Brickler, Trina Yancey, Bill Winters and Mallori Shaver. The play is directed by Phil Boyd.

Performances are Thursdays-Saturdays, Oct. 7-9 and 14-16 at 7:30 p.m. with Saturday matinees at 2:30.

The theater is at 7490 Roanoke Road (US 220), just south of Fincastle.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and students and $9 for groups of 10 or more. Reservations are recommended and may be made by calling 473-1001. If no one is at the ticket office, leave your name and phone number and someone will call you back. Box office hours are Mondays and Wednesdays from 3-7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
