The Lord Botetourt volleyball team opened the Blue Ridge District schedule with a win over Staunton River in Moneta last Thursday. The Cavaliers took a 25-19, 25-11, 25-10 win.
“We played well,” said LB coach Cheryl Shockley. “They’re young and they struggled with service receive.”
Macey Tyree had five aces to lead LB, and she also added 12 kills and a dozen digs. Katey Hall had 10 kills, Carrie Heldreth had five, and Nikki Dean and Alyssa King had four kills each.
“Nikki really stepped us for us,” said Shockley. “We had some players hurt and she played very well in the middle.”
Botetourt also beat Pulaski County last week to improve to 7-4 overall. That match saw the Cavs win, 25-23, 25-11 and 25-17. Tyree had 16 kills against the Cougars to go with eight digs. Dean, Hall and Rachel Parker had four kills each and Parker combined with Kelsey Argabright for 32 assists.
The Cavaliers were at Alleghany Tuesday, and Thursday they go to William Byrd.
Next Tuesday, Oct. 5, LB will host Northside and that match will be at Read Mountain Middle School, as the new bleachers still aren’t ready at the high school gym.
However, this is an important match for the Cavs to play at a home site since it’s a benefit for Breast Cancer Awareness. The teams will be wearing pink uniforms as a fund-raiser.
“It should be a big night,” said Shockley. “We’ve sold $1,700 worth of pink T-shirts for our fans to wear.”
