The Pioneer District volleyball tournament will be held this week at the sites of the higher seeded teams. Craig County was scheduled to host Parry McCluer on Monday to open the tournament but results were too late for publication.
The Rockets ended the regular season last week with a loss to Eastern Montgomery in New Castle. The visiting Mustangs won in three sets, 25-10, 25-11 and 25-12.
“This was a tough game against East Mont, who is number one in the Pioneer District,” said Craig coach Suzanne Gans. “With several of our players attending the FFA National Convention, we pulled up three JV players; Adalynn Zimmerman, Raelynn Stamper and Keira Burton.
“The newcomers adjusted well, with Keira having a great all-around game. Laikan May did an awesome job defensively, picking up 17 digs, and Natalie Fisher led the team well on the court. Despite making adjustments, we weren’t able to pick up the win.”
Burton had a kill, an ace and six digs. Adalynn Zimmerman and Addisyn Higgins had two kills each while Ally Calfee had a kill and 12 digs. Stamper had two kills and an ace, Laikan May led the team with 17 digs and Mia Beller had five. Fisher had eight assists, five digs and an ace.
The Rockets were scheduled to play Eastern Montgomery again on Tuesday in the second round of the tournament if they won Monday. That was in Elliston.
